Beach Day Beauty Essentials

With summer right around the corner and a lot of beach trips lined up, I decided to do a post on what you need when going to the beach! Between the salt, sand, and sun, a day at the beach is arguably the best natural beauty treatment of all. But too much exposure can be harmful to our skin and hair. Consider these products for your next trip to the shore. The goal is to protect existing features while highlighting your own beauty at the same time.

 Protect Your Skin

Spray sunscreen
This is the most important item of all. It’s so important to protect your skin from strong summer rays. I recommend wearing at least an SPF30+ when enjoying direct sunlight. A spray bottle is great because you don’t have to spend time rubbing in the product. And it makes hard-to-reach areas, like your back, easier to cover.  Just make sure your brand is water resistant.
Facial sunscreen
Since the skin on our faces is so sensitive and comes into contact with the most sunlight, it’s a good idea to give this area some extra love. I like this lotion sunscreen by Hawaiian Tropic because it provides sun protection while hydrating the skin at the same time. It’s oil-free and doesn’t leave your face looking greasy.
Lip balm
Wind and salt from the ocean can dry out your skin. Bring your favorite lip balm along to keep your lips moisturized. Nobody likes chapped lips.

Condition Your Hair

Hair oil or leave-in conditioner
Like our skin, the sun and sea can easily dry out our hair. That means split ends and frizz. Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair after it’s wet to prevent breakage. Or try a hair oil like this one from Organix, focusing it on your ends. It is made with coconut oil and keratin proteins that soothe dry or brittle hair.
Beach spray
Sometimes the best part of the beach is beach hair, natural tousled waves created by the salt water. But there is a way to fake this look if you don’t actually want to get in the water. Try a beach texturizing spray like this one from Oribe. It’s infused with sea salt and kelp to give your hair that surfer girl look.

Add some color with bright nail polish

Summer is the best time to rock a bright nail. And what better place to try a blue or green shade than the beach? This one by Essie is called Mint Candy Apple and matches the sea and sky perfectly.
BB cream
You want to keep your makeup light and fresh for the beach. So forgo foundation for a BB cream. It is a lighter alternative that brightens, hydrates, and covers imperfections on the face. I love this one by 3LAB Aqua because it comes in compact form with an applicator sponge, so you don’t need to bring a brush. It gives a light, dewy finish, and provides an extra SPF40+.
Retractable eyebrow pencil
Filling in your brows will make your face look healthier and more youthful. Choose a retractable pencil (so you won’t need a sharpener) with a smear-proof formula. This one from Anastasia Beverly Hills leaves a natural finish and comes with a built-in spooly brush to blend out edges.
Waterproof mascara
A few coats of mascara on your top lashes will really make your eyes pop. So if you can’t live without it, be sure to include your favorite waterproof mascara so it doesn’t slip and slide with sweat and surf.

After Sun Care

Whether you need to heal a sunburn or just want to extend your tan, there are a few products to know about.
This is an important product to have on hand if you plan on spending a lot of time in the sun, especially if you are fair-skinned. It is available in both lotion and gel form. I like to chill mine in the cooler in case I have a bad burn that needs treating.
 After sun lotion
This can be a tan-extending product or something to hydrate sun-exposed skin. This one by Hawaiian Tropic moisturizes dry skin and highlights your natural skin tone with a subtle shimmer. It also smells like coconut.
That should about do it. Stay safe and stay beautiful!
